Self Care while being a AD caregiver

Being a caregiver is very challenging, it doesn't matter the needs of the person you take care of. But if you are a caregiver for a memory care patient then that is a huge challenge. You need to find time for yourself, you need "Me Time". It is absolutely necessary for your own well being. I leave you with the video below, something light not too challenging, like the commercial says, just do it.

I have known caregivers that have passed away because their stress levels were so high, that it caused them to have fatal heart attacks. That is quite unfortunate when the main caregiver passes, untimely, creating chaos, and upset to the AD patient.
As the main comfort giver, the person seen as a safety blanket is gone. I advocate for people suffering from AD and other Dementias, I also advocate and promote for caregivers to find "Me Time".In order to continue in this Bumpy road of Alzheimer's, the caregiver needs to practice Self Care. Create your own safety net. Find people that can keep an eye on your loved one for a few hours on any given day. Hire a caregiver for much-needed respite care. Whatever you choose to do. Do take time for you! You need it!

Always, Be Prepared, Be Informed, Be Empowered.
